Name of Organization: Central Tea Cooperative Federation Ltd (CTCF) Nepal Address: Ilam Municipality 7, Naranthan Ilam Working Region/District: Eastern Region (Ilam, Panchthar, Dhankuta, Therathum, Taplejung, Sankuwava , Bhojpur and Jhapa) and all over the Nepal Main Objectives: Socio-economic and advocacy capacity empowerment of Cooperatives, Private Sector Organizations (PSOs), and individual farmers involved in the orthodox tea industry. Intermediate Objectives: Objective-1: To enhance lobbying and advocacy capacity of tea farmers and cooperatives in creating conducive policy environment for the industry's growth. Objective-2: To improve organizational capacity and entrepreneurial knowledge of CTCF, DTCF and tea cooperatives. Objective-3: To promote decent work environment alongside improvement in occupational safety and health (OSH) of tea farmers and tea workers. Objective-4: To forge partnership and broader alliance among stakeholders (farmers, investors, leaders, traders and promoters of the tea industry) through collective advocacy and dialogue for overall development of the tea sector. CTCF working together with the ILO Nepal under the project of Advocacy for Rights and Good Corporate Governance (UNNATI- Inclusive Growth Programme In Nepal) NEP/15/01 M/DAN in Nepal With aims to promote improved advocacy for responsible business, including rights and good corporate governance in selected four value chain in orthodox tea. ILO funded the title of project on Sustained Economic Growth of the Tea Sector through Compliance of OSH, UN Global Compact Agenda and MNE Declaration to CTCF. CTCF conducted following activities from June 15 to May. 14, 2018. Achievements are presented bellow:
Activity 1.1. National Level Interaction on Tea Policy, Issues, Constraints and way forward CTCF organized a national level interaction program on Tea policy, issues, constraint and way forward on 9 may 2018 at Kathmandu. Hon. State minister Ram Kumari Chaudai, Ministry of Agriculture land management and cooperative was the chief guest and her commitment to address solve the tea related issues. Senior Government officers and policy makers, lawmakers, development partners and stakeholders altogether 75 participants better understand tea related issues, constraints and bottle naked. Financial institutions (cooperative bank ) commitment to provide loan to tea cooperatives and other related stakeholders also commitment to play positive active role in tea development .,Ministry of Agriculture land management and cooperative has mentioned to develop tea zone area for province no. 1 in their transforming way forward program.
Activity 2.1 Organize one training to executive members and member of subcommittee of CTCF on Lobbying and Evidence-based Advocacy Entrepreneurial knowledge and capacity development (for 3 days) Main achievement of this training was 20 leaders (4 female and 16 Males) Board members, internal audit committee members and subcommittee members of CTCF increased the capacity of evidence based advocacy knowledge on FACT approach and identified some common lobby agendas like as Lobby with the Government for the Amendment by Reviewing the National Tea Policy 2057,lobbying for the increment in investment on Tea Sector in local level, Promotion and easy access to use of Nepal Tea Quality from the Himalaya logo, Detail Study of the possibility and effect of Orthodox Tea in Nepal .Participants are awarded on Global compact principles, MNE deceleration and Fundamental Rights at work during this training.
Activity 2.2. Organize one training to executive members of District Tea Cooperative Federations on Lobbying and Evidence-based Advocacy on Entrepreneurial knowledge and capacity development.(3 days) Main achievement of this training was 20 leaders (5 female and 15 Males) Board members, internal audit committee members and senior staffs of DTCFs increased the capacity of evidence based advocacy knowledge on FACT approach and identified some common grassroots level district wise lobby agendas.Participant are awared on Global compact principles, MNE deceleration and Fundamental Rights at work. Activity 2.3. Training on review of strategic and business plan to cooperative for sustainable development (2 days 3 events) CTCF Conducted 3 training events on review of Strategic and Business plan to Cooperative for Sustainable Development. The training was conducted from 23 to 28 Nov. 2017 at Ilam. 2 days of the each event. There were 57 cooperatives representatives from Ilam, Panchthar, Jhapa, Dhankuta and Therathum districts. There were 59 participants (45 male and 14 femeals) from 57 cooperatives. By this training Cooperative managers and representatives have increased better understood about the responsible business in tea cooperative business and job and have gain the knowledge about how to address the responsible business as sustained way in their business plan and ready to review strategic business plan .
Activity 3.1.Workshop on Occupational Safety and Health in Tea Sectors : (1 day 4 events in 4 districts) CTCF conducted a day workshop on occupational safety and health in tea sectors in 4 districts(Ilam,Panchtar, Dhankuta and Therathum) on 16 Feb.20 Feb. 2018 .150 participants were aware about OSH and identify their role on OSH improvement in tea sector. Farmers are starting to use PPE in filed work.- Small tea processing factories are constructing separate toilet of male and females.
Activity 4.1: Interaction program among Tea farmers, Tea cooperatives, Tea processors, Tea Entrepreneurs on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Multi National Enterprise & Social Policy (MNE declaration) and UN Global Compact Agenda. (1 day Interaction Programs, 2 events 2 districts) The first event program was conducted at Dhankuta Hile at 21 August 2017 and 23 August 2017 at Ilam Bazar.There were 26 (24 male and 2 females) participants in the program of Dhankuta from representative tea processor, tea cooperatives, tea farmers, tea entrepreneurs of Dhankuta, Therathum, Bojpur and Sankuwasava District. Likewise there were 27 (26 male 1 female) participants from representative of representative tea processor, tea cooperatives, tea farmers, tea entrepreneurs of Ilam, Panchtar and Districts. The Main achievement of the program were as 53 participants consisting farmers, workers, tea cooperatives, processors, entrepreneurs aware and better understood about theCSR, MNE and UN Global Compact with analysing current situation. They were commitment to apply this agendas on their business. Activity 4.2: Organize periodic meetings (quarterly , once in 3 month) and make Tea Task Force functional for responsible business practice in Tea sector.(First meeting was conduct at Lalitpur on 20 July, 2017 and second meeting was conduct 24, Feb. 2018 at Birtamod) Tea Task force is a very good plate from to come up together to discuss tea related issues by tea related major stakeholders where the representative from government, labours, cooperatives, industries, farmers representatives . Tea task force team jointly lobby to government and adopted directives (rules) of to use Nepal tea Quality from the Himalaya and jointly successfully organized 3rd international tea festival 6-9 April 2018 in Nepal and promoted Nepal tea. Tea task force team was decided to common agenda for lobbing to government for example to declare the Province on. 1 as a tea zone area and provided subsidy and grant for tea development, make favorable tea related policy etc and lobbed concern ministries and presented current tea problems.
