In Nepal, tea farming is helping develop rural areas through social enterprises like tea cooperatives. A social enterprise is a business that works not just for profit, but also to improve the lives of people and the community.

Tea cooperatives in Nepal are good examples. They:

    • Bring farmers together to grow and sell tea
    • Share profits fairly among members
    • Provide training, jobs, and better market access
    • Support education, health, and local development projects

By working as social enterprises, tea cooperatives help reduce poverty, stop youth migration, and build strong rural communities. This is how tea farming supports rural development in Nepal. Most of the member cooperatives are located in the rural area of Nepal which is the volunteer organization by the tea farmer. Cooperatives are producing and processing high quality tea with the collective effort by mobilizing small funds from their member. Cooperatives are the best alternatives for those people who do not have sufficient capital. It is joint effort of the community level people and shares risk associated in business. The owner and the client both are the member of the cooperative. Cooperative does not make transactions with the non-member. Hence it is the social enterprise with the aim of rural development.
